SERDANG, 24 June – Five postgraduate students from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) were awarded the prestigious 2026 Yang di-Pertuan Agong Scholarship (BYDPA), further strengthening the university’s reputation for producing outstanding researchers and high-achieving academic talent.
Among the recipients, three were awarded scholarships to pursue Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) studies: Afiefah Zulkifli (Nutrition), Chua Hui Qi (Mathematics and Statistics) and Giroon Ijod (Nutrition).
At the master’s level, the scholarship recipients are Mohamad Izuwansah Ishak (Environment) and Puteri Najihah Athirah Zamrifana (Veterinary Science).
The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Scholarship is among Malaysia’s most prestigious postgraduate awards, recognising outstanding students with exceptional academic achievement, leadership potential and the ability to contribute to national development through research and innovation.

UPM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Ir. Dr. Ahmad Farhan Mohd Sadullah FACs, said the recipients’ success reflects the university’s strong commitment to nurturing world-class researchers and graduates capable of competing at both the national and international levels.
“This achievement is a testament to the excellence of our students and to UPM’s academic and research ecosystem, which continues to cultivate high-impact talent.
“I hope the recipients will continue to elevate the standing of both the university and the nation through research that benefits society and contributes to Malaysia’s development agenda,” he said.
The achievement further strengthens UPM’s position as a leading research university committed to advancing academic excellence, innovation and high-impact research across strategic disciplines.
